China entry requirements for Canadians
Do Canadians need a visa for China?
No visa is required for tourism: Canadian ordinary passport holders may enter mainland China visa-free for stays of up to 30 days, for tourism, business, family/friend visits, exchanges or transit — in effect from 17 February 2026 to 31 December 2026. Apply for a visa in advance for stays over 30 days, for work, study or journalism, or if you hold a non-ordinary (diplomatic/official) or emergency travel document. Most travellers must also complete the Arrival Card (online via the National Immigration Administration website or 'NIA 12367' app, or on paper/kiosk at the port of entry); a few categories, such as passengers in direct 24-hour airside transit, are exempt.
